The name might be confusing, since the Camino Inglés isn’t in Great Britain but entirely in Galicia.
And at just 117 km, it’s also the shortest of the routes to Santiago—making it ideal for people who don’t have much time.
The Starting Point of the Camino Inglés
You can start the Camino Inglés from two different points: A Coruña and Ferrol.
Both towns are in Galicia, (almost) on the coast. If you start in Ferrol, it’s 117 km to Santiago—enough to qualify for your Compostela.
If you start in A Coruña, it’s only 75 km. But you can still get your Compostela if you can prove that you walked 25 km on an official Camino route in your home country.
That’s not so easy, though. It’s not that other countries don't have enough Camino routes—some do—but getting stamps to prove you actually walked can be tricky. Stamps are usually only available at a few official hostels, and occasionally in churches.
Is the Camino Inglés Challenging?
It’s more challenging than the Camino Portugués but easier than the Camino Francés.
There are definitely some climbs along the way, and in some areas, the overnight stops are spaced far enough apart that very short stages aren’t always possible.
Still, the Camino Inglés is a great pilgrimage route for beginners who want to get a taste of the Camino experience—while still completing an entire route.
