Of course, Santiago de Compostela has one. And Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, where the French Camino begins, also has a pilgrim office where pilgrims can get help and information, their pilgrim passport, and their first stamp. But Porto?
Where is the pilgrim office in Porto?
The pilgrim office for the Camino Portugués is located very close to the cathedral (Sé) in Porto. Or rather: it will be located there, because the physical premises are not yet open. It opens it’s doors to the public on April 11th at 09:30h.
The office is located in the Rua da Pena Ventosa 38 in Porto. This is the location of the pilgrim office on Google Maps: Link
Until then you can already find volunteer helpers from the pilgrim office every morning from 7 a.m. at the milestone opposite the cathedral in Porto’s city center.
Above all, Jean-Pierre, president of the international pilgrims’ association UIDPJ, which runs the pilgrim office, is bravely there in both sun and rain.
What does the pilgrim office in Porto offer?
On site – currently still provisionally opposite the cathedral – you can buy your pilgrim passport, get your first stamp, and ask questions.
They will also show you the correct way, as the arrows leading away from the cathedral can be quite confusing. (You can also read in this article which arrows belong to which route.)
On the pilgrim office’s website, you can already use many services.
You’ll find access to offers from partners who provide organizational or emotional support (like me), as well as luggage transport and shipping, bike rental, transfers, and local tickets.
You can also register there so the pilgrim office knows where you are and when, allowing police and authorities to act more quickly in case of an emergency.
The website still has a few things under construction, but these will be resolved in the coming weeks.
